Our History:

I.  Our Roots
Our church was originally part of Shiloh Youth Revival Centers (SYRC), a nationwide youth ministry with its headquarters and Bible School in Eugene, Oregon. SYRC was born out of the "Jesus People Movement" of Southern California of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa before becoming an independent work. Calvary Chapel, pastored by Chuck Smith was originally part of the Foursquare Churches, which have their origin in the early 1900's with the Azusa Street Revival.

II.  The Birth Of Vineyard Community Church
In the summer of 1978 SYRC decided to close down all of its outreach ministries other than the one in Eugene. Pastor Dave DiYanni and his wife Roxanna had just moved here four months earlier, January 1st, to start pastoring the work. They were given the option to either close down or become an independent church. So on October 1,1978, with about 25 people, Faith Chapel was officially incorporated. The church met at a house on 8440 East Main St. As we grew, we moved several times and rented a building from the Cotner’s Funeral Home on Main Street and then rented the auditorium at the Hannah Ashton Middle School. Our attendance at that time was about 70 people. We then purchased four acres on Palmer Road near Taylor Road and began building our own church building in August of 1985. On May 24, 1987 we held our first Sunday Service in the new building. We finished our Family Life Center on October 1, 1998. We added the back children’s wing January 2001. We are excited about the opportunities ahead of us and are determined to stay as flexible as possible to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as He continues to add to the church daily such as should be saved. Faith Chapel officially joined the Vineyard Association of churches on January 1, 2005 and changed their name to Vineyard Community Church.  The Vineyard association has about 600 churches in the US and approximately 400 abroad..

III.  Church Government and Leadership
Vineyard Community Church has a New Testament form of government. This means that the Pastor functions as a bishop. He is called of God (or should be), and functions with multiple elders who serve as ministers and deacons.

1.One Pastor (bishop), many elders, (Acts 15).

2.The elders believe the Pastor is called of God, and gladly submit to his leadership.

3.The elders are appointed by the Pastor as Paul told Titus to do in Titus 1:5.

4.The Pastor believes in and submits to the counsel and ministry of the elders.

5.The Pastor is a shepherd and not a hireling.

6.In the end, honor comes to the humble/spiritual, not the political.

This is the form of government in function in VCC because it's biblical and it works. There is room for abuse in ANY system - the success of government depends upon the trustworthiness and heart of the Pastor and the leaders.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the oversight of the church finances and business transactions. The Program Directors and ministers are responsible for the oversight of specific church ministries, such as our children’s ministry, youth ministry, worship ministry, and men and women’s ministries.
We as a church feel that the character of an elder and a leader should be above reproach. They strive hard to live by that standard and ask for grace and mercy when they make mistakes. Anyone who is interested in working in a leadership position must first be a member of the church.
VCC's bylaws and incorporation papers are available at the office for anyone interested to read. We are a 501 recognized (3)(C) non-profit corporation.
